PRESS RELEASE ON HANDS-ON TRAINING ON ENHANCED LABORATORY INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (LIMS): 12TH TO 14TH DECEMBER 2022, PUNAKHA

A three-day hands-on training on the enhanced Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is underway at Punakha. The training is being conducted by National Centre for Animal Health in collaboration with Project Management Unit, Ministry of Health and Information, Communication and Technology Division (ICTD), MoAF. The training is being conducted from 12 to 14 December 2022.

LIMS is an online database management system designed to efficiently manage information on all the veterinary laboratory activities in Bhutan. The system’s key features include but are not limited to, registration of owner, animal/feed and sample, testing of individual and pool samples, test verification, sample referral, proficiency testing, sample repository, laboratory consumable store management, data archival and reports. The system helps the veterinary laboratories in the country to track samples from submission to testing and reporting. The system is intended for use by all the laboratory facilities under the Department of Livestock (DoL): National Veterinary Laboratory under the National Centre for Animal Health (NCAH), National Veterinary Hospital (NVH), Regional Livestock Development Centres (RLDC), Satellite Veterinary Laboratories (SVL) and Dzongkhag Veterinary Laboratories (DVL).

The training program is being attended by 40 veterinarians and laboratory officials from NCAH, NVH, RLDCs, TVH&SLs and DVLs from Thimphu, Paro, Chhukha, Wangdi Phdrang, Bumthang, Zhemgang, Lhuentse, Monggar, Tsirang, Trashigang, Trashi Yangtse, Gasa, Trongsa and Haa.

The training is intended to acquaint all the participating veterinarians and laboratory technicians with different services in the LIMS and implement them for field use to collect data concerning laboratory services delivered in the field offices.

The enhancement of the system and subsequent training of field users has been funded by the Fleming Fund Country Grant and technically supported by the ICTD, MoAF and Yuevaan Private Consultancy.
