Workshop on Review and update (Essential Veterinary Supplies System, SoPs, drug formulary, costing and annual budgeting for medicines) EVDP coordination workshop & National Veterinary Medicine Committee Meeting

A workshop on reviewing and updating the Essential Veterinary Supplies System, SOPs, drug formulary, costing, and annual budgeting for medicines was held from February 10–14, 2025, in Gelephu. The workshop focused on revising the Essential Veterinary Drugs Program (EVDP) strategy, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and the veterinary drug formulary to align with updated antibiotic and treatment guidelines. Additionally, the workshop addressed the lack of a proper costing framework for annual medicine budget estimates, emphasizing the need for accurate financial projections.

Since representatives from all Dzongkhag veterinary hospitals and key central agencies were present, discussions also covered challenges and improvements in managing essential veterinary supplies. The 14th National Veterinary Medicine Committee meeting was also conducted on the final day, where technical issues related to veterinary supplies were reviewed and endorsed.

The workshop was attended by stakeholders from the Department of Livestock, National Center for Animal Health, regional veterinary hospitals, national farms, Bhutan Food & Drug Authority, Ministry of Health, Nature Conservation Division, and College of Natural Resources. It was organized by the Drugs, Vaccines & Equipment Unit (DVEU), National Center for Animal Health (NCAH), in collaboration with the Fleming Fund Project Management Unit.
