Welcomed visitors from the UoM, A/Prof. Dieter M. Bulach and Dr. Kinley Penjor (PhD candidate), to the NCAH Laboratory

24 March 2026-We welcomed visitors from the UoM, A/Prof. Dieter M. Bulach and Dr. Kinley Penjor (PhD candidate), to the NCAH Laboratory. As part of the ongoing TRICYCLE surveillance collaboration, Dr. Kinley Penjor (Principal Investigator and PhD candidate, University of Melbourne) is working in partnership with the National Centre for Animal Health (NCAH), Royal Centre for Disease Control (RCDC), and Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH). This One Health initiative focuses on integrated surveillance of ESBL-producing E. coli across human, animal, and environmental sectors to understand the magnitude of the AMR problem in the country.

Within this collaboration, NCAH plays a critical role in supporting the animal health component by facilitating the collection of poultry cloacal samples, isolation of ESBL-producing E. coli, and shipment of isolates to the UoM for advanced phenotypic and whole genome sequencing analyses.

Through shared data, technical expertise, and capacity building, this partnership contributes to advancing evidence-based approaches for global health and AMR surveillance
