Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are fundamental to ensuring consistency, safety, and quality in laboratory operations. They provide detailed, step-by-step instructions for handling equipment, performing tests, and managing risks, thereby minimizing errors and enhancing reproducibility.
Biosafety cabinets (BSCs) play a crucial role in ensuring safe and contamination-free laboratory operations. Proper use, maintenance, and cleaning of BSCs are essential for protecting laboratory personnel and ensuring the accuracy of analytical results. However, despite their significance, standardized protocols for these activities are lacking in many laboratories in Bhutan.
To address this gap, a five-day training workshop on the use and maintenance of Biosafety Cabinets, risk assessment, spill management, and SOP development is being held at Lhazaay Suites, Gelephu, from January 7–11, 2025.
Participants in the workshop include representatives from the National Center for Animal Health (NCAH), Regional Livestock Development Center (Kanglung), Regional Veterinary Hospital and Epidemiology Centers (Phuentsholing, Gelephu, and Dewathang), Royal Centre for Disease Control (RCDC), Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH), and National Food Testing Laboratory (NFTL).
The workshop is organized by the National Center for Animal Health (NCAH) and funded by the Fleming Fund Country Grant Phase II Project. It is facilitated by national experts from the Laboratory Unit at NCAH and RCDC.
