FMD Outbreak in Thimphu and Bumthang Dzongkhags

Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak (FMD) has occurred in Zoshi village under Kawang Gewog, Thimphu Dzongkhag on 17th March 2014. Seven animals were affected in two herds. The animals were vaccinated previously against the disease and the symptoms were found to be mild except one young calf that showed severe symptoms. The disease was confirmed through clinical as well as laboratory examination. Similarly, FMD outbreak has occurred in Chhokhor village, Chhokhor Geog under Bumthnag on 20th March 2014. A total of five animals in a herd were affected. The samples were collected and referred for serotyping. Preventive and control measures are in place in both the outbreak areas.
