Anthrax outbreak in Mongar Dzongkhag

Anthrax outbreak was reported in Lelong village, Narang Geog under Mongar Dzongkhag on 9th May 2014. Out of 8 animals in the herd, 7 died making 87.5% mortality. Dzongkhag Administration, Mongar have carried out detailed investigation and was tentatively diagnosed as Anthrax based on the history, clinical signs & laboratory test. The samples were referred to Regional Laboratory Development Centre, Kanglung for further confirmation. Control measures are in place.

Rabies outbreak in Sarpang Dzongkhag

Three separate cases of rabies were reported from Sarpang Dzongkhag during the reporting period. The cases reported were from Gelephu Geog on 1st May 2014, Umling Geog on 5th May and in Shompangkha Geog on 13th May. All the cases were reported in dogs. The Investigation team from Dzongkhag Administration, Sarpang and SVL Gelephu has carried out the detailed investigation. All the samples were positive to Rabies by Rapid Test done at Satellite Veterinary Laboratory, Gelephu. Control measures are in place.

FMD outbreak in Tashi Yangtse Dzongkhag

Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak has occurred in Tshendeling Zampa village, Yallang Geog under Tashi Yangtse Dzongkhag on 28th April 2014. Out of 30 animals in one herd, 27 cattle were affected with 2 deaths of young calves. The disease investigation and samples collection was carried out by the investigation team from Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Tashi Yangtse and RLDC, Kanglung. Samples will be soon referred to NCAH, Serbithang for further diagnosing. Preventive and control measures are in place.

Infectious Bursal disease outbreak in Sarpang Dzongkhag

Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) outbreak have occurred in three geogs of Sarpang Dzongkhags on 6th April 2014. The outbreaks occurred at the National Poultry Development Centre, Sarpang, 2 poultry farms at Shompangkha Geog and another four poultry farms at Samtenthang in Bhur Geog. Out of 10,000 birds 2,969 birds have died with a mortality rate of 30%. Theteam from NCAH, Serbithang, Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Sarpang, NPDC & SVL Gelephu conducted detailed investigation and have diagnosed as Infectious Bursal disease based on clinical, postmortem, and laboratory diagnosis. FMD outbreak in Paro Dzongkhag

Footand Mouth Disease outbreak has occurred in Phuckekha village, Dogar Geog under Paro Dzongkhag on 1st April 2014. A total of 29 cattle were affected in 9 households. The samples were collected by the investigation team and were referred to NCAH, Serbithang for further diagnosing. The result was positive to FMD byNS ELISA. Preventive and control measures are in place.

Rabies outbreak in Sarpang Dzongkhag

Rabies case in canine was reported from Yeuling village, Chhuzargang Geog under Sarpang Dzongkhag on 20th March 2014. Another case in bovine was reported from Kaphung village, Sherzhong Geog under Sarpang Dzongkhag on 31st March 2014. Both the cases were confirmed by rapid antigen detection test.

FMD Outbreak in Thimphu and Bumthang Dzongkhags

Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak (FMD) has occurred in Zoshi village under Kawang Gewog, Thimphu Dzongkhag on 17th March 2014. Seven animals were affected in two herds. The animals were vaccinated previously against the disease and the symptoms were found to be mild except one young calf that showed severe symptoms. The disease was confirmed through clinical as well as laboratory examination. Similarly, FMD outbreak has occurred in Chhokhor village, Chhokhor Geog under Bumthnag on 20th March 2014.
