Haemorrhagic Septicemia outbreak in Thimphu Dzongkhag

An outbreak of Haemorrhagic Septicemia (HS) was detected at Namseling village, Mewang Geog under Thimphu Dzongkhag on March 22, 2015. Two adult cows have died on subsequent days. There are four numbers of susceptible cattle in the same household. The investigation teams from the National Centre for Animal Health, Serbithang and Livestock Sector Thimphu Dzongkhag has investigated the outbreak through postmortem examination and laboratory analysis of samples. Technical debriefing session by the OIE PVS Evaluation Follow-up mission

Technical debriefing session by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) on the Performance of Veterinary Services (PVS) evaluation follow up mission was held on 19th of March 2015 in the conference hall of NCAH, Serbithang. The meeting was attended by Unit heads, Animal Health Specialist of the Centre; CVO from the National Animal Hospital and Dzongkhag Livestock Officer, Thimphu Dzongkhag. Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) outbreak in Tsirang Dzongkhag

Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) outbreak has occurred at Pemathang village, Goserling Geog under Tsirang Dzongkhag on 15 March 2015. A total of 48 birds have died out of 600 birds in three days. The investigation team from Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Tsirang has visited the outbreak site and conducted the post mortem examination and sample collection. The samples were tested against Infectious Bursal disease using IBD test kit and was positive at Dzongkhag Veterinary Hospital, Damphu. The age of the birds that died was 24 days old. Control measures are in place.

Rabies outbreak in Sarpang & Samtse Dzongkhags

Rabies in canine was reported from Balatung village, Sengye Geog under Sarpang Dzongkhag on 11th February 2015. Satellite Veterinary Laboratory, Gelephu and Livestock Extension Centre, Sengye has carried out the investigation and confirmed the disease as Rabies. Similarly, another rabies cases was reported from Gomtu village Phuntshopelri Geog under Samtse Dzongkhag on 14th February 2015. Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak in Punakha Dzongkhag

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak has occurred in Tempakha & Nawakha villages, Chubu Geog under Punakha Dzongkhag on last week of January but was reported only on 5th February 2015 to Geog Livestock office. Veterinary officials from the Regional Livestock Development Centre & Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Punakha have investigated the outbreak on 6th February and samples were referred to the National Centre for Animal Health, Serbithang for further confirmation. Newcastle disease outbreak in Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag

Newcastle disease (ND) outbreak has occurred in Denphu village, Serthi Geog under Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag on 31st January 2015. Veterinary officials from the Satellite Veterinary Laboratory, Deothang & Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Samdrup Jongkhar have investigated the outbreak and samples were referred to the National Centre for Animal Health, Serbithang for further confirmation.
