OIE PVS laboratory mission underway

Three members OIE PVS Laboratory mission team are currently in the country to evaluate National Veterinary Laboratory System. The objective of the mission is to evaluate the performance of veterinary laboratory services in terms of technical capability, human and capital. The mission team will also provide directions in improving the services in future including work and cost projection for next five years. The findings from the mission will help to strengthen the laboratory diagnostic capacity, progress into cost effective service delivery system and finally create an avenue of accreditation process. One day scientific seminar held at NCAH, Serbithang

The National Centre for Animal Health (NCAH), Serbithang organized a one day scientific seminar on the 25th December 2015 at NCAH conference hall. The seminar was organized to share information on the research related on animal health and production. FMD outbreaks in Zhemgang, Lhuntse, Mongar & Tashi Yangtse

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreaks have occurred in Zhemgang, Mongar, Lhuntse and Tashi Yangtse Dzongkhags. Regional Livestock Development Centres in collaboration with Dzongkhag Livestock Sectors have investigated the disease and samples were referred to National Centre for Animal Health, Serbithang for further analysis and confirmation. Control measures are put in place. The source of infection is suspected to be from Bumthang Dzongkhag which experienced similar outbreak in the near past. The probable source of spread could be the down-stream cattle migration from Bumthang.

FMD outbreak in Lhuntse Dzongkhag

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak has occurred in Nagnay village, Jaray Geog under Lhuntse Dzongkhag on 6th November 2015. A total of 15 cattle in three household were affected out of 120 susceptible animals. Dzongkhag Livestock Sector, Lhuntse and Regional Livestock Development Centre, Khangma have investigated the outbreak and relevant samples were referred to NCAH Serbithang for further analysis. Control measures are put in place. The source of infection is suspected to be from Bumthang Dzongkhag.

World Rabies Day 28th September 2015

Rabies is a fatal and neglected zoonotic disease that causes an estimated 59,000 human deaths per year in the world, an average of one death every 10 minutes. Most of these deaths occur in developing countries of Asia (about 20,000 deaths per year in India alone) and Africa where domestic dogs are the principal reservoir and a vector for human rabies transmission, and where rabies control programmes are inadequate. Thai Delegates’ Visit to National Centre for Animal Health, Serbithang

A three member team led by the Dean, Professor Dr. Apinun Suprasert accompanied by Dr. Vishnu Songkitti and Dr. Tanu Pinyopummintr from the Kasesart University in Bangkok, Thailand visited the National Centre for Animal Health in Serbithang on 26th August 2015. The delegates visited the BSL+2 laboratory in the centre beside discussing on the possible scientific and technical collaboration between Kasetsart University and National Centre for Animal Health during their visit.
