Avian Influenza (H5N1) Outbreak at Samdrup Jongkhar, Bhutan

The National Centre for Animal Health (NCAH) confirmed an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza - H5N1 at Zangtopelri Lhakhang, Samdrup Jongkhar on 11th March 2018. Following confirmation, the National Incident Command Committee (NICC), chaired by Dasho Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests met on 12th March 2018 declared the outbreak and issued an executive order (SEC/MOAF-7/2017-18/148) to activate Incident Operation Center (IOC) at Samdrup Jongkhar.

As of 13th March 2018, 36 birds died from the disease and 24 birds in the outbreak area were depopulated. IOC is continuing with disease control and containment measures at Samdrup Jongkhar.
