Refresher training for Veterinary laboratory technicians was held from 7th to 9th Nov 2016 at the National centre for Animal Health, Serbithang. There is a need to keep in pace in terms of diagnostic services for the emerging and re-emerging diseases in the country. Hence, in order to improve the laboratory diagnostic services for the animals in the country, the knowledge and skills of the lab technicians of the country needs to be updated from time to time. Therefore, the refresher training program was conducted with the objectives upgrading refreshing the skills of the lab technicians of the country. Rabies case in dog Gelephu

A rabies case in a stray dog was reported on 2 Nov 2016 at Lekithang, Gelephu. The brain tissue tested positive to rabies virus. No human bite have been reported. Read More

New test for rabies diagnosis

A team from Australian Animal Health Laboratory, Geelong, Australia is here at National Centre for Animal Health, Serbithang from October 24 - November 4, 2016. The team comprises of Dr John David Allen, Program Leader and Ms Andrea Fabiana Certoma, Senior Experimental Researcher. The team is here for two main task. The team will first conduct FAO supported Technical Backstopping of National Laboratory at National Centre for Animal Health, Serbithang. Afetr completing technical backstopping the team will proceed with conducting training on affordable and robust rabies diagnsotic assay-Rabies Immunoperoxidase Antigen Detection (RIAD) test. Strengthening Brucellosis diagnosis

During October 19-22, 2016, the Brucellosis research scientists from National Institute of Animal Health, Japan were here at National Centre for Animal Health, Serbithang. Dr Makoto Osaki and Dr Yuichi Ueno from the Japanese Institute are the experts on Brucellosis. They were here through collaborative research work on Brucellosis. The collaboration is aimed at strengthening diagnostic capacity for Brucellosis at NCAH. The collaboration also includes exchange of visiting scientist between the two institutes to learn more from each other. The four days visit was spent on introducing three diagnostic methods for diagnosis of Brucella infection: culture technique, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and milk enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)...
